We would be happy to help figure out the amount of material you need for your project. Just give us a call at (719)846-4170 during business hours. But if you feel like you’d like to take on the challenge to learn to do it yourself, the formula is posted below. There are also links to a couple of other websites you can use to help you calculate for your needs.

One ton of 1"-3" rock typically covers 80 square feet at a 3-inch depth.

One yard of 1”- 3” rock typically covers 110 square feet at a 3-inch depth.

How to Calculate Yardage & Tonnage Yourself

 L x W x D ÷ 27 = Yardage

L x W x D ÷ 21.6 = Tonnage

 L = Length

W = Width

D = Depth (inch ÷ 12 {ex. 2in ÷ 12 = 0.17})

27 = Amount of cubic feet in 1 yard

21.6 = Rough amount of cubic feet in 1 ton.

 Example: 50’ by 10’ by 3” deep

(3” ÷ 12” = 0.25)

(50’ x 10’ x 0.25) ÷ 27 = 4.63 yards

(50’ x 10’ x 0.25) ÷ 21.6 = 5.79 tons

Round to the nearest ½ yard or ton. Too much is better than not enough.
